Legal Associates Supports Women Care Trust: “Ladies Cultural Night 2018”

On Saturday 21st of July 2018, Legal Associates worked hand in hand with Woman Care Trust (“WCT”) for their annual event, Ladies Cultural Night. WCT is a non-profit charitable trust that was established in 2014, to support Indian/ Punjabi women and other new immigrant settlers in New Zealand. WCT organises and conducts free classes to teach English and computer skills to women and men at their learning centre. Further, the organisation also works to provide other free services such as fitness, stitching, knitting and to learn cultural folk dances of Punjab. Honorary Consul of Bangladesh meets Legal Associates team

Legal Associates hosted the Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in New Zealand, Mr Shafiqur Rahman for a morning tea with the partners and other employees of the firm, in July 2018. Mr Rahman was accompanied by two officials from the Bangladesh High Commission in Australia who were in Auckland to provide consular services on behalf of the High Commission. This is a point-based category where points are awarded for skilled employment, age, qualification, skilled work experience and bonus points for partners included in the Expression of Interest (EOI). A claim of points is made through an EOI and if the applicant has the required total points (currently 160), then the EOI is selected from the pool on a fortnightly basis. After the EOI is selected, an "Invitation to Apply" ("ITA") is issued by INZ which is valid for 4 months to allow the applicant to lodge the Residence Application. The ADLS Immigration and Refugee Law Committee was pleased to host the Annual ADLS Immigration Law dinner at the Northern Club on Wednesday 6 June 2018. Legal Associates was represented by Taufiq Chauduhry. The event was well-attended by a good cross-section of the judiciary, OCs, practitioners, and immigration advisers. On the 25th of July, Legal Associates, by special invitation of the BNZ Bank, was privileged to attend a presentation by BNZ Bank’s Chief Economist Tony Alexander on the NZ economy.
