An Interactive session on Immigration was conducted by Team Legal Associates for Nepalese Community in Auckland at Freemen’s Bay Community Hall on 25th on August 2018. This was organized by NZNA (New Zealand Nepalese Association). The session was attended by 50 participants from different Institutes Universities and Work places.
LA Principal Raj Singh was assisted by Sunita Suman Legal Executive and Country manager India. The focus was on the changes in Post Study Work Rights for International students.
Removal of Employer Assisted Post Study work Visa at all levels after 26th November 2018.
One-year post study open work visa for students of level 4-6 and non-degree level 7 in Auckland.
Two-year post study open work visa for students of level 4-6 and non-degree level 7 outside Auckland.
Three-year post study work visa for degree level 7 and onwards.
International Students studying level 8 in the area specified in the Long-Term Skill Shortage List their partners would be eligible for an open work visa and their dependent children for Domestic Student Visa. (for detailed information please read article by Ranbir Sandhu.)
It was a great initiative taken by NZNA for the Nepalese Students so that the students can feel the warmth , security and fragrance of their own land and community thousands of miles away from home.
The participants were addressed by Dinesh Khardka, Purvesh and Shridhar President NZNA.
Richa Thapa and Utsa who came all the way from Christchurch for this session made a PowerPoint presentation on How to Write an effective CV and cover letter for Jobs. They both shared their own journey from an international student till now.
It was concluded with the need for organizing such interactive sessions/Seminars and workshops on regular intervals and different locations.
