On 5th of July Ashima Singh, brought together professional ladies from different walk of life in Auckland to raise awareness for one of the most important cause, Breast Cancer. Ashima is a Partner at Legal Associates, a law firm based in South Auckland. She is also a winner of ‘Best Businesswoman of the Year 2016’. She decided to address breast cancer issue because it has been an ongoing issue for women all around in world. Especially, here in New Zealand it is the third most common cancer.
During Covid-19 Ashima realized that professional ladies, who are working independently and work towards running their own business don’t tend to prioritize their health first. Being a mother of 2 kids and business Partner of one of the leading law firm in Auckland, Ashima realized that she herself is guilty of not prioritizing her health first.
“I believe woman generally tend to focus on building their family and business so much that they forget to take care of their health first. Considering that 80% of woman are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in New Zealand, I believe professional ladies who have family and business to look after, need to be educated regarding this ongoing issue”, says Ashima whose priority has always been educating the community and empowering woman.
The event was held for 2 hours in Coffee Club, Broadway New Market. There were overwhelming number of 60 people that showed up to the event. They had 3 guest speaker, Dr Padmaji Koya, Gynaecologiest & Laparoscopic Surgeon. She is one of a very few gynecologists who offers total laparoscopic hysterectomy in New Zealand.
